Objective of the Celebration:
The main goal of this celebration was to create an atmosphere where children understand the importance of Karkkidaka month and how it is observed, and what all food we can and cannot have during this period. This helps them understand the importance of the month and why we are not supposed to have certain leafy vegetables. It aims in boosting immunity and also to boost their self-expression, creativity, and confidence through active participation in bringing the food that they prepared at their home and explain about the ingredients.
Highlights of the Day:
The children were eager to know about the Karkkidaka Food Fest and they brought a few of the food items which they prepared at home and presented it during the assembly. They presented Karkkidaka Kanji, Chembila thoran, Sambharam, Mulappicha payar salad, and Thaalu curry.
Learning Outcomes:
Cognitive Development: Children learn to categorize foods, understanding food origins and appropriate contexts for eating and developing preferences based on sensory experiences and observational learning. Children also learn to associate tastes with nutrients and other foods and their understanding of food's role in health and well-being. Social Interaction: Participating in group activities, like arranging and presenting, helped build teamwork, cooperation, and friendship.
Creativity & Motor Skills: Through activities exploring different textures and shapes, children can enhance their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and problem-solving abilities while also fostering creativity and imagination. Emotional Development: Children are more likely to eat an unfamiliar food if they see an adult or even their friends having it.
